Mineral and Resource Recovery from Waste Water
Wednesday, July 22, 2010 / 10:00 am PST
Paul O’Callaghan of O2 Environmental will continue the discussion that we started at the BlueTech Forum on 8 June with the first in the BlueTech webinars, hosted by the Artemis Project – “Mineral and Resource Recovery from Waste Water.”
Around the globe, a growing number of advanced water technologies are recovering valuable minerals and resources from waste water. The O2 Environmental Technology Assessment Group (TAG) will outline the size and value of the market opportunity, drivers for change, the business models used, major players and some of the innovative technologies being developed.
Companies providing some of the leading innovative solutions to the market will discuss overviews of their approaches.
- Calera Calera has a technology platform which can simultaneously sequester carbon, desalinate water and produce concrete. This highly dispruptive approach deals with meeting demand for the worlds most widely traded commodity, water, reduces the carbon footprint for the worlds second most widely traded commodity, concrete and also offers to the potential to sequester carbon from stack emissions.
- Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies – has a technology platform the Pearl™ which is used to ‘mine’ wastewater for Phosphorus, which is a non-renewable and essential resource. Ostara help municipalities and industry meet their regulatory requirements, while at the same time, producing a valuable slow release fertilizer product, Crystal Green™ which is sold to the fertilizer industry.
- CASTion – The CASTion Corporation is mining ammonia from wastewater with its Ammonia Recovery Process (ARP) and can recover this from municipal and industrial wastewaters and produce a raw material for sale back into the fertilizer industry, thereby generating a revenue stream.
- Oberon has been researching and developing the production of single cell protein (SCP) from un-utilized food processing by-product streams for over five years. Oberon’s vision is to become the premier supplier of high-quality SCP meal destined for use in animal feed diets.
Panelists
- Brent Constanz, CEO, Calera - Dr. Constantz specializes in novel, high-performance cements. He is the inventor on more than 60 issued U.S. patents, as well as many pending U.S. and foreign patent applications on the subject. Prior to founding Calera, he was the founder and CEO of three successful medical device companies: Norian, Skeletal Kinetics, and Corazon.
- David Delasanata, President, CASTion – Mr. Delasanta is the President of the CASTion Corporation and has 35 years experience in the environmental field. He has held senior positions with Shaw Group, AECOM, Kaiser Engineers, Air & Water Technologies and has extensive experience with start-ups, roll-ups, divestitures.
- Ahren Britton, CTO, Ostara Nutrient RecoveryTechnology -Mr. Britton has more than 10 years experience in environmental engineering, specifically focused on the wastewater treatment industry. He is a co-inventor of Ostara’s technology and developed the first prototype of Ostara`s technology during his research at the University of British Columbia. His professional experience includes roles in engineering consulting, municipal utilities and heavy industry both in North America and in Australasia.
- Seth Terry, VP of Operations & Co-founder Oberon – Mr. Terry has particular expertise in the molecular biology and biochemistry that provide the foundation for appropriate bacterial growth and the successful generation of SCP material. Mr. Terry also has significant experience in the operation and optimization of biological wastewater treatment processes, such as those that will be modified at existing food-processing facilities for the production of Oberon’s SCP products.
