Ballast Water Treatment Technologies

Thursday, January 27th 2010: 12:00noon – 1:30pm Eastern Time

BlueTech Tracker™ Webinar to cover:

  • While the size and scale of the Ballast Water Treatment market has made the headlines, there is still debate and uncertainty as to which technologies are suitable for large ships, smaller vessels, for new builds versus retrofits, and which will be the winners and losers in each category.
  • Amid the range of system options and system providers it can be challenging for clients to navigate their way through various claims and identify the key factors which should influence their decisions.
  • This webinar will discuss the impact of impact of water quality on treatment efficacy, the need for filtration and which systems are validated and have potential to achieve Type Approval.
  • With less than 300 systems sold, and only  25-30 actually operating, most of these for these for less than 1 year, actual operational experience is limited.
  • The most appropriate technology will vary from ship to ship and will be a balance between energy use, footprint, ability to deal with water quality variability (and temperature), reliability, ease of operation and maintenance and capital and operational costs.
  • This webinar will look at how these factors play into technology choice with examples of how their relative importance may change depending on the specific situation.
  • Many of the technologies being applied are being taken from other areas of the water industry. In addition there are some specific innovative solutions and muli-tech approaches being developed specifically for this market.
  • The objective of the webinar is to provide clarity in a rapidly evolving market segment and identify some of the key technologies that should gain ground and in which niches.
  • The panel will bring together perspectives from industry expert consultants, (Jon Stewart, Maritime Advisors), technology vendors (Severn Trent Services and TrojanUV representing two of the dominant approaches currently used), naval architects Herbert Engineering, and a ship owner (to be decided).
  • The target audience is ship owners & ship yards, treatment technology companies, naval architects, investors and consulting engineers as well as researchers active in this area.
