Technology Offering

Lithium extraction

What is it?

Developed a process to extract lithium, manganese and zinc from geothermal waste streams. The waste stream originates from geothermal power plants (like the one built at on top of the San Andreas Fault at the Salton Sea in southeastern California) and undergoes precipitation and filtration to remove the silicates from the water. The filtered water is than passed through an ion exchange system to draw out the lithium ions from solution to form lithium chloride. The company is using patents licensed from Lawrence Livermore and also has patent applications in process. This is a mining technology first and foremost, and would be disruptive to that industry, and has secondary role as a wastewater treatment technology.
