CoMag & BioMagWhat is it?
A sludge pre-treatment process which consists of a ballasted coagulation and flocculation process that uses magnetite to increase floc settling velocity. A coagulant (and polymer) is added for floc formation. This is followed by magnetite (Fe3O4) addition which attaches to the flocs and increases their specific gravity resulting in high rate settling. When the settled sludge is separated, the magnetite is recovered by using a hydrocyclone and a magnetic drum. Evoqua claims magnetite losses less than 5%. The technology can be applied in primary, wet weather or tertiary treatment (CoMag) or in secondary treatment (BioMag).Website
