Technology Offering

Electrobiological Methanogenesis

What is it?

Electrochaea technology upgrades the percentage methane content of biogas from anaerobic digester by converting the carbon dioxide content into methane using methanogenic archaea. These methanogens carry out this reaction using carbon dioxide, water, and either hydrogen or electricity. The resulting biogas has a methane content which makes it suitable for injection into the conventional natural gas pipelines. Electrochaea market the technology as being a method to store and transport renewable energy such as wind or solar generated electricity.
